In collaboration with long-term client Wetterbest, Engineering Edge recently conducted a carbon emission and sustainability assessment across three separate production orders manufactured at our Taiwan facility. The purpose of this initiative was to measure specific embedded emissions (SEE), electricity intensity, and material consistency across fastener batches supplied under CN classification 7318 14 99 (self-tapping or other screws).
The report revealed an average SEE of 2.9192 tCO₂e per tonne, with minimal variance between product lines, indicating strong process stability and emissions control. Electricity consumption was recorded at an average of 2.1071 MWh per tonne—comparable to global best practices in steel-based fastener production. These results demonstrate Engineering Edge’s commitment to traceability and transparency in line with CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) and regional sustainability frameworks.
Beyond reporting, Engineering Edge has implemented multiple initiatives to reduce environmental impact. These include improvements in material and energy efficiency, packaging optimisation to minimise waste, and a more robust approach to supplier screening in accordance with ESG principles. At the Taiwan production site, operational refinements have already shown measurable benefits in reducing resource consumption while maintaining high product quality.
Future-focused investments are also underway. Engineering Edge is exploring renewable energy sourcing and heat recovery systems to further reduce emissions at the manufacturing stage. Additionally, efforts are being made to streamline logistics through route consolidation and mode optimisation, reducing transport-related carbon output across regional supply chains.
Client engagement plays a central role in Engineering Edge’s sustainability model. As part of the recommendations provided to Wetterbest, the company has proposed PO-level data sharing to enable precise carbon calculations per order. Other initiatives include the adoption of lower-SEE fasteners for applicable applications, exploration of circular packaging systems, and the introduction of quarterly sustainability performance reviews to track shared progress over time.
